What is LATISSE® (bimatoprost ophthalmic solution) 0.03%?
LATISSE® solution is a prescription treatment for hypotrichosis used to grow eyelashes, making them longer, thicker and darker.
How does LATISSE® work?
LATISSE® is believed to affect the growth (anagen) phase of the eyelash hair cycle in two ways: first, it increases the length of this phase; and second, it increases the number of hairs in this growth phase. The exact way it works is unknown.
Is LATISSE® effective?
The LATISSE® clinical study was conducted at 16 sites across the country and included 278 participants, featuring women and men of various ages (22 to 78), backgrounds and eye colors. Throughout the course of the 16-week treatments, each participant was photographed and evaluated at 4-week intervals (week 0 to week 16) for differences in their overall lash prominence, including elements of length, thickness and fullness. At 16 weeks, the results showed that LATISSE® was effective for 78% of those participating, versus 18% for the vehicle group. Vehicle is the same as LATISSE®, without its active ingredient.
Tips For Best Results
- Cut the brushes that come with Latisse in half to limit waste of the product or use your own brush (i.e. thin mascara brushes).
- Once results achieve the level you like, you may want to apply Latisse every other day.
- Store the Latisse bottle near your other skin care products or toothbrush, so you won't forget to apply it each night. Try to incorporate LATISSE into your nightly routine — for example, after you've washed your face and brushed your teeth.
- Have patience. Latisse takes time to work. It is important to ONLY use it once a night, and don't overuse it, as this may increase the chance of experiencing eye redness or itchiness.
- Always use the sterile, disposable FDA-approved applicator provided in the kit. Don't try to apply LATISSE with a cotton swab. The LATISSE applicator is specially designed to hold a drop and release a drop, as well as ensure safety and maximize effectiveness.
- If you miss a dose one night, don't apply more just to catch up. Simply apply LATISSE the next evening and stay on schedule
- It is best not to let the tip of the bottle or applicator contact your fingers or any other unintended surface, in order to avoid contamination.
- You can start your own "Before & After Gallery" to track how long your lashes have grown.
